Bienvenue!
The Beverley Anglo-French Society is a social language group for people in Beverley and the surrounding area. We aim to promote French language and culture and socialise with others who share our enthusiasm.
The Society puts on a yearly programme of events with monthly gatherings centred around an illustrated presentation or activity (film/wine tasting). The presentations are delivered in French by French speakers. Regardless of the planned activity, each meeting offers the opportunity to practise your French speaking and listening skills and chat with like-minded lovers of French language and culture.
Society members often share information on their experiences from visits to France including recommendations for accommodation and restaurants. All language lovers are welcome however, a conversational level of French would allow you to get the most out of each meeting. We welcome anyone who shares our interests in enjoying the French language and culture.
In 1990 a councillor from Nogent sur Oise who had married a Beverley girl approached Beverley College with the idea of a twinning between the two towns. After a visit to Nogent it was decided that each town would set up an Anglo-French Society. Thanks to the efforts of Margaret and Tony Knight there was a lot of support. Meetings were held monthly with speakers on French literature, art, culture, wine tasting etc. Beverley's Society has continued to thrive and our current membership is around 40.
We support the Beverley – Nogent Town Twinning Association and naturally many people are members of both. (For more information on twinning, please visit www.beverley-nogent.com)
